I’d add some kind of starter to get it going quicker. I’m not familiar with portion sizes for alfalfa meal, but if you can find a bale of alfalfa from a feed store or ranch, you can leave that out for your chickens to peck at. How much food should a large breed puppy eat?
Four feedings a day are usually adequate to meet nutritional demands. Large breeds should be fed unmoistened dry food by 9 or 10 weeks; small dogs by 12 or 13 weeks. 3–6 months: Sometime during this period, decrease feedings from four to three a day.
