Many things can bring about a change in a dog's health. These include exposure to harsh climatic conditions, sudden change of weather, lack of enough rest or sufficient exercise. Failure to give proper immunization shots and genetic weaknesses can also bring about illness among dogs. Some diseases affecting dogs such rabies and leptospirosis are transmitted to human beings as well. A dog's illness can be diagnosed by noticing sudden or unusual changes in its behavior patterns. Does your dog seem sullen and depressed? Does it seem to be disoriented and refuses to take in regular meals? Is it losing balance and gradually becoming more aggressive? If the answer to all these questions is yes, then you must see the vet. Other symptoms include drinking liters of water, which may indicate kidney and liver problems and diabetes as well. Lethargy is another subtle sign of dog's illness. Though it can be a result of exhaustion or just feeling out of sorts, continuous lethargy can damage a dog's health. If lethargy continues for more than two days consult the vet. Remember, that a dog's stool is the key to its health. Firm, small and moist stool indicates good health whereas hard and dry ones are indicative of dietary problems. It is advisable that you keep a regular check on your dog's health and visit the vet for regular medical check ups.
